The Insect Apocalypse: What’s Happening, Why it Matters, and What to Do
June 16, 2021 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm
Wednesday, June 16th at 7PM (Virtual Presentation)
“The Insect Apocalypse: What’s Happening, Why it Matters, and What to Do” by Maria Cramer who is a PhD student in Entomology at the University of Maryland.
“Insect abundances have been declining in many parts of the world. Many of us can even recognize the “windshield effect”– that in recent years far fewer insects splatter on our windshields during the summer. But even though we know for sure that insects are declining, there are still many unanswered questions: Are all types of insects declining? What’s causing it? How does it impact us? This talk will journey through causes of insect declines, the importance of insects for ecosystem functions (not just providing bird food!), and will cover what we can all do to help.
